What does the KnowX WordPress knowledge base theme include?
Two knowledge base home page layouts, a Customizer for the whole design, breadcrumbs, a branded login screen and the sidebars and widgets a help site needs. All free.
Layout One
What does the help center home page look like?
Layout One opens with a search box, then a tile for each topic. Below the tiles it lists your popular and recent articles, and it ends with a way to reach support.
- A hero with your own heading and a search box
- One tile per top-level category
- Popular Articles and Recent Articles
- A support section with your button and link

Layout One
What sits below the topic tiles?
Popular Articles shows your five most-viewed posts and Recent Articles your five newest. The support section at the bottom catches readers who did not find an answer.
- Popular Articles uses the free WordPress Popular Posts plugin
- Recent Articles needs no setup
- Support heading, text, button and link are yours to set

Layout Two
Can readers see every article on one page?
Yes. Layout Two lists every topic with its articles under it, so a reader can scan the whole knowledge base without leaving the page.
- Every category with its articles listed
- Optional category description under each topic
- Set how many articles show per topic
- Sort by date or by name

Knowledge base
How does the knowledge base home page work?
It groups your posts by category. No custom post type, so nothing is locked in.
Layout One
A hero with a search box, a tile for each top-level category, Popular Articles and Recent Articles, and a support call-to-action section.
Layout Two
Every category with its articles listed under it, without the hero and support sections.
Created for you
On first activation KnowX creates a Knowledge Base page with Layout One and sets it as the front page. You can change that in Settings > Reading.
Hide categories
Exclude categories by ID for the whole site, or per page from a box on the page editor.
Control each topic
On Layout Two, set how many posts show per category and whether they sort by date or by name.
Small touches
On Layout Two, show or hide the page title, the View All link and the category description. Popular Articles on Layout One needs the free WordPress Popular Posts plugin.
Design
What can I change without code?
The Customizer panels come from the free Kirki Toolkit plugin, which KnowX asks you to install. Without Kirki, the KnowX panels do not appear.
General and Typography
Site-wide layout, colours and fonts.
Knowledge Base
The options for the knowledge base layouts.
Header
A sticky header and an optional sub-header with breadcrumbs and search. One menu location: Primary.
Site Footer
Four footer widget areas plus a copyright bar.
WP Login
The login logo, its link and title, and the login page title.
Site Performance
Host Google Fonts on your own server, with preload and a cache flush.
Editor and templates
What does it add to the editor?
Block editor support
A colour palette, font sizes, wide alignment, block styles and a footer block pattern.
Four page templates
Knowledge Base Layout One, Knowledge Base Layout Two, Full-Width and Full-Width Container.
Sidebars
Right Sidebar, Left Sidebar and a KnowX Categories widget. bbPress sidebars appear when bbPress is active.
Plugins
Which plugins does it work with?
Recommended
Kirki Toolkit, Collapsing Categories and WordPress Popular Posts. All optional, and KnowX offers them after activation.
Detected automatically
bbPress (forum sidebars and breadcrumbs), Elementor (so it can control the header and footer) and Jetpack.
Yoast SEO
When Yoast breadcrumbs are on, KnowX uses that trail. Otherwise it uses its own.
